"Hospital Bills And Bankruptcy"
Life After Bankruptcy Stories
In 1991 at the age of nineteen I was hit by a car while I was walking
home. I spent two weeks in the hospital recovering from my injuries.
When I was released from the hospital I went back to work about two
weeks later. I wasn't making very much money at that time, and could
barely keep my head above water financially.
During my two weeks in the hospital I racked up $80,000 in hospital
bills. I was being hounded by creditors every day in the mail and by
phone. I had even been taken to court and sued over this account.
Here I am at the age of
nineteen living in and out between my mother's
house and the homes of a few friends just trying to stay
afloat and still pay my bills. It was almost impossible.
Finally a friend of mine suggested that I call a lawyer and ask about
filing bankruptcy. I picked up the phone book and started looking at
some ads. I wrote out a list of possible law offices to call and got
together what bills and notices I had. I then sat down an started
making calls, making sure to ask the right questions.
How many years experience did they have? How long does the process
take? What items will you need from me? Where does this take place? Who
all will bill dealing with my case? When will it take place? When will
it be finalized? And the biggest question on everyone's mind is how
much will it cost me? Back when I did my bankruptcy at that time it
only cost me $550.00.
Once mine was done and everything was cleared I got myself back on
track and started saving money. I stay away from things that I
think will get me back in deep water again.
I hope this will help you and I give my best wishes.
