"Death of a Spouse and Bankruptcy"

Life After Bankruptcy Stories

I was greatly in debt by the time I was 37 years old.

I was a housewife with three kids whose husband had recently died from brain cancer. I was devastated and lost, and ended up deep in debt. I was unable to pay for my house, my bills, or my husband's funeral.

Even so, the bills kept on coming and coming with no stop in sight. I was scared and did not know what to do. I felt like I was trapped. I didn't have the money in order to pay my expenses and my credit kept deteriorating.

After a certain point I lost my house and had to go live with my parents once again. My children always asked me when we could "go home" but I never had an answer. One time my youngest daughter told me she wanted her room back and all I could do was break down in tears.

After talking with my mother for several hours one morning, I decided I only had one option - to file for chapter 7 bankruptcy. I felt like at that point it was the only option.

I was unsure of how it would work or if it would bring out positive changes, but I did so anyway.

A few years have now passed since that day and I must say it helped me put my life back on track. I now have a steady and wonderful office job and am on my way to purchasing my own house. I would not have been able to do this without filing for bankruptcy.

Sometimes filing bankruptcy really is the best solution.
