"Bankruptcy is Liberating"

Life After Bankruptcy Stories

My experience with pre and post bankruptcy is as follows. I was in debt around $40,000. Mixed bills such as credit cards, hospital bills and cell phone bills.

The only thing that I didn't have corrupting my credit was the college loans. And believe me when I tell you, it's like these college loan lenders knew my credit situation and were trying to get their piece of the pie too. They were creeping down my door every chance they got trying to tempt me with student loans. Calling me and marketing me every day nonstop.

Luckily before I could get stuck with any more debt, I decided to file bankruptcy. I was tired of collecting agencies calling me on the phone to collect. The unexpected withdrawal from my checking account by a debt collector who falsely claimed that they had contacted me and that I had authorized them to take the money out my checking account. And then there were the nonstop daily demand letters I got from collection agencies.

I went in for a pre-bankruptcy consultation. I did my other pre-bankruptcy tutor class on line. These were the two things my lawyer told me I had to do if I want to file.

Within 3 months of filing bankruptcy, it was all done and over with. It's true I cannot get much credit now. But it is also true that I am debt free. Not owing any debt makes me feel better then most of those who are "richer" than me. Most of them are also in debt, but I'm completely debt free.

What a luxury to be debt free these days. Everyone, or almost every one is in debt, paying mortgage, cars, credit cards, and everything else. I'm not and it feels really good. It feels like freedom. Bankruptcy is liberating.
